lactic acid
Lactic acid is an organic acid belonging to the alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs). Originally obtained from the fermentation of lactose, it is also present in certain fruits and vegetables and in the human body.
A chemical exfoliant, this active ingredient eliminates dead cells from the superficial layers of the epidermis that clog pores. The result is a more radiant complexion, smoother skin texture and fewer pimples and blackheads.
In addition to its exfoliating virtues, lactic acid also has moisturizing properties.
It also acts on tyrosinase, the enzyme responsible for melanin production. Applied topically, lactic acid considerably reduces pigmentation spots.
Lactic acid is very well tolerated, and is suitable for all skin types, particularly sensitive skin: unlike glycolic acid, it is non-irritating and penetrates less deeply, due to its higher molecular weight.
