5 rules for putting your skin on summer time
With the days getting longer and the sun returning, the change to summer time is good news for our morale... but not so good for our skin, which suffers from the change of rhythm.
Explanation: the change to daylight saving time disrupts our natural circadian rhythm, i.e. our biological clock which regulates the 24-hour cycle on which our body functions and which is influenced by morning light and evening darkness.
Sleeping an hour less can disrupt the body for several days, or even weeks for those most sensitive to this time change. A study carried out by the European Commission in 2015 highlighted that "health can be affected by the change in the body's biorhythm". Consequences include sleep disorders, attention problems and changes in appetite.
Not to be outdone, the skin is also affected by sleep disturbances, the ideal time for cell regeneration. Insufficient or disturbed sleep leads to a dull complexion, dark circles and an acceleration of the skin's aging process. Sleep disorders can also aggravate existing skin problems.
So how do you take good care of your skin?
1. Intensify your night-time skincare routine
Sleep is the ideal time for skin regeneration. At night, the skin is free from aggression and can therefore REPAIR itself in depth. To compensate for the effects of disrupted sleep, we recommend intensifying your night-time skincare routine by opting for moisturizing creams rich in restorative ingredients such as panthenol and allantoin.
Formulated like a balm, Riche PERS cream provides a night-time cocoon for the skin to REPAIR itself.
2. A new skin
Spring means renewal, and skin is no exception. Retinol has a keratolytic action: it eliminates dead cells on the skin's surface and stimulates cell renewal. This action unclogs pores and refines skin texture.
Retinol also stimulates the action of fibroblasts, which are involved in synthesizing collagen and elastin fibers, two dermal proteins that contribute to skin firmness and support. Using retinol reinforces their action, for smoother, more toned skin, preventing and attenuating the signs of aging (fine lines and wrinkles, sagging skin).
3. Focus on the eye contour area
The fine skin around the eyes is marked by sleep disorders: dark circles, puffiness and even fine lines and wrinkles.
We recommend providing comfort with targeted, effective active ingredients: hyaluronic acid for hydration, niacinamides for elasticity, arnica to relieve congestion and caffeine for its vasoconstrictive properties.
4. Advanced sun protection:
Longer days mean longer exposure to UV rays. It is therefore essential toapply SPF protection every day to prevent skin damage, reduce the risk of skin cancer, and maintain the skin's youthful vitality. We recommend combining antioxidants such as vitamin C with sun protection to reinforce its action and prevent damage caused by free radicals.
5. Moisturize in & out
All skin types need moisturizing on a daily basis (even combination, oily or acne-prone skin). With the arrival of spring, we recommend opting for a lighter moisturizing formula.
Moisturizing the skin also comes from within: drinking water eliminates toxins and leaves the skin supple, firm and deeply hydrated. The minimum recommended amount is 1.5 liters of water a day.
